Cause of Dust Storms
Before the dust bowl was the Great Depression. This was the cause of farmers making the transition to plows to get more production with higher a number of crops. 5 million acres of total land was plowed. This amount of farming would cause the top soil to come up and would be taken by the wind to create huge clouds of dust and sand. The drought during the dust bowl was so bad that soil almost lost all it's moisture. The clouds were so thick they covered the sun for several days.
