Families in the midst of the dust bowl had to make a quick decision, stay with their homes in the dangerous dust clouds or make the decision of starting new. Farmers had to chose somewhere to go that had the conditions that were appropriate for farming. This would later prove to change history for years to come. Many people picked California for the reason of its mild climate that allowed a large variety of crops to be produced. California was almost like the ideal promise land of farming. Route 66 known as "The Main street Of America" provided an highway from the dust bowl to right under the central valley of California.
